CCS Sex and Gender-Based Analysis (SGBA ) Trainee Abstract Award

The CCS Sex-and Gender-Based Analysis (SGBA) Trainee Abstract Award will recognize the trainee that best demonstrates appropriate integration of sex and/or gender into their research abstract submitted to the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress (CCC). There will be two awards: one for Basic science and one for Clinical research.
Accepted abstracts being considered for this award will be evaluated with this rubric.
The two abstracts (one Basic and one Clinical) that best demonstrate appropriate integration of sex and/or gender across the research design, data collection, analysis and reporting will be awarded a cash prize of $250 and a plaque.
Award Criteria:
To be eligible for this award, the CCS SGBA Trainee Abstract Awardee:
- Must either be a medical student, resident, clinical or research fellow, graduate student, or a postdoctoral fellow in an accredited training program;
- Candidates may not be a previous winner (1st place) of the CCS SGBA Trainee Abstract Award;
- Candidates must self-nominate and indicate their interest in being considered for the award at the time that they submit their abstracts through the submission system to CCC;
- To be considered for the CCS SGBA Trainee Abstract Award, a letter from the candidate's supervisor must be uploaded with the submitted Abstract. The letter must indicate that the Abstract is to be considered for the CCS SGBA Trainee Abstract Award competition, confirm that the candidate is in a training program at the time of Abstract submission and attest that the candidate is the principal investigator of the research project.
- The candidate can enter more than one abstract for the SGBA Trainee Abstract Award (Basic and Clinical), but only one abstract will be considered for award of either Basic or Clinical;
- To be eligible, the candidate’s research must be original and cannot have been presented or published prior to CCC. The candidate must clarify their role in the research work submitted.
Award Prize:
1. Award winners (one Basic, one Clinical) will each receive a cash prize of $250 and a plaque;
2. The CCS SGBA Trainee Abstract Award winners will be acknowledged in the October Supplement addition of the Canadian Journal of Cardiology, as well as highlighted in the CCC Final Program App; and
3. At the discretion of the Scientific Program Committee (SPC), the award recipients may be announced at CCC.
The SPC reserves the right to present no CCS SGBA Trainee Abstract Award in a given year if they deem there to be no meritorious candidate.
