Workshop Description: This workshop was designed by the CCS Early Career Committee to discuss common challenges experienced by Early Career Cardiologists and Cardiac Surgeons. There will be three challenging scenarios presented encompassing 1) how to navigate patient complaints and complications, 2) how to advocate for resources, and 3) how to approach challenges with administrative support. These scenarios are relevant to Early Career Cardiologists and Cardiac Surgeons working in university-affiliated and community sites. Early Career Committee members will present a scenario summarized in 2-3 minutes, followed by a panel discussion and audience questions for 12 minutes. Panel Members, consisting of Heads of Cardiology, Cardiologists and Cardiac Surgeons, will share their approaches to the presented challenges and offer strategies to overcoming the presented challenges. The scenarios will be fictitious to avoid concerns of discussing real scenarios amongst the tight-knit community of Cardiologists and Cardiac Surgeons in Canada
Interactive and Engagement Activities Description: This workshop incorporates panel discussions and question and answer periods related to common challenging scenarios faced by Early Career Cardiologists and Cardiac Surgeons. Eighty percent of the workshop time is allocated to interactive discussion.
Presenter: Sam Su, MD, FRCPC – University of Manitoba
