Workshop Description: In the spotlight session presented by the Canadian Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging, we will review current and emerging concepts in imaging of ischaemic heart disease.
The first presentation will focus on the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Classification of Acute Myocardial Infarction. Myocardial infarction evolves in four stages. Those stages reflect the progressive severity of tissue injury. The application of cardiac imaging and clinical consequences will be reviewed by Dr. Andreas Kumar.
The second presentation will focus on myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries. Although a common problem, diagnostic assessment and management in clinical routine remain challenging. The role of cardiac MRI in the work-up of MINOCA will be reviewed and discussed by Dr. Jacqueline Saw.
The third presentation will focus on the role of myocardial perfusion imaging with cardiac MRI. The role of myocardial perfusion MRI in coronary disease and myocardial infarction will be reviewed by Dr. Waleed Al Humaid. Focus will be ischemia detection, microvascular injury in acute myocardial infarction as well as perfusion imaging in non-ischemic heart disease.
The fourth presentation will explore new frontiers in the imaging of tissue oxygenation using oxygen-sensitive cardiac MRI. This method has the potential to directly visualize myocardial ischemia without depending on contrast agents. The talk will be presented by Dr. Judy Luu.
