Michel Pellerin is professor of surgery at the Université de Montréal, where he also serves as a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon at the Montreal Heart Institute. He is co-director of the minimally invasive robotic mitral and tricuspid surgical program. He was Head of the Department Surgery from 2004 to 2012.
Dr Pellerin graduated in medicine at University Laval in 1985, and in General Surgery in 1990. He subspecialized in Cardiovascular surgery at the Université de Montréal in 1993. He then has completed a 2 years clinical fellowship in mitral valve reconstructive surgery under the leadership of Pr Alain F. Carpentier MD PhD. He graduated magna cum laude as a MSc in surgical biology and artificial organs from the University of Paris VI, as a scholar of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
Dr Pellerin has authored and co-authored more than 200 articles and abstracts in peer-reviewed cardiovascular publications. He has also written several book chapters and multimedia complex surgical videos.
Dr Pellerin, is a frequently invited lecturer and his most recent topics of discussion are: mitral valve repair, surgical technology, minimally invasive and robotic mitral surgery, long-term outcomes after valve surgery, and percutaneous mitral and tricuspid valve interventions. He is a member of the AATS and was president of the ACCVTQ, (Quebec association of CVT surgeons) from 2013-to 2019. Doctor Pellerin is also a strong advocate of a healthy life style, he is a dedicated Ironman triathlete with 10 full distance 140.6 events and 20 70,3 events.
