Amine was born in Casablanca, Morocco. He migrated to Canada with this family at the age of 4. He received his Medical Degree and a Master’s of Science from the University of Montreal. After medical school, he joined the Cardiac Surgery Residency program at the University of Toronto, where his clinical interest crystallized around congenital heart disease and complex valve surgery. He completed a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. The topic of his thesis was the generation of the cardiac valve lineage from human pluripotent stem cells. Amine is an avid traveler and has visited over 30 countries. His extra-curricular interests include scuba diving, history, language learning, martial arts, and chess.
