Cardiac Surgeon, Cheif
Dr Voisine graduated in medicine in 1996 and completed his residency program in cardiac surgery in 2002 at University of Montreal. He then completed a 2-year fellowship at Harvard University, working mostly in translational research on large animal models of myocardial ischemia and heart failure.
He then joined the cardiac surgery team at the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute, where he worked both in clinical and fundamental research, acting as the local principal investigator and member of the steering committee for the NIH-sponsored CardioThoracic Surgery Trials Network (CTSN) and pursuing studies on large animal models of endothelial dysfunction and coronary artery bypass grafting surgery. After almost 20 years in Quebec, he stepped in as Division Head of cardiac surgery at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in 2023. His clinical interests include adult cardiac surgery in general with a focus on arterial grafting for coronary artery disease, surgery for heart failure including transplantation, and valvular surgery.
Dr Voisine holds academic positions as elected member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery and member of the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions Program Committee of the Cardiovascular Surgery and Anesthesia (CVSA) Council. He is also the outgoing chair of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada cardiac surgery exam committee.
