Resident
University of Manitoba, Canada
Mikyla Janzen is a first-year Internal Medicine resident at the University of Manitoba, with a decade-long love affair with the heart. Starting as an undergraduate research assistant with the Hearts in Rhythm Organization, she then completed a Masters of Science degree under the mentorship of Dr Andrew Krahn which investigated ECG changes in people with eating disorders. She then transitioned to congenital heart disease and worked as a research coordinator with Dr Jasmine Grewal and the Virani Pacific Adult Congenital Heart Clinic. After a brief foray working at Lululemon and coaching youth volleyball, she went to medical school at University College Dublin where Mikyla remained involved in cardiology research at the University of British Columbia. With the support of Dr Grewal, they recently launched the Infective Endocarditis in Adults with Congenital Heart Disease Registry, which aims to explore this complex and incompletely understood phenomenon worldwide.
Outside of medicine, Mikyla enjoys a Peloton HIIT & Hills class, elaborate meal prepping, and a good Irish whiskey.
