Semhal Gessese is a Master’s student at the University of Ottawa’s School of Nursing and a Cardiac Surgery Registered Nurse at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. Currently, she is working as a Research Assistant with Lindsay McArthur, focusing on developing decision support tools for patients with stable Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). As a recipient of the CIHR Canadian Graduate Scholarship, Semhal’s thesis centers on promoting equitable shared decision-making practices and patient-centered care for African, Caribbean, and Black patients in the context of brain-heart health.
