Shubh Patel is a second-year medical student at the University of Toronto and a researcher at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute, University Health Network, and St. Michael's Hospital, focusing on cardiology and cardiac surgery. His research interests include leveraging machine learning to enhance diagnostics and prognosis in cardiovascular medicine.
Supported by the Schulich Leader Scholarship, Shubh pursued Biomedical Sciences at the University of Calgary. Motivated by personal experiences with heart disease and a passion for cardiac physiology, he collaborated with esteemed researchers such as Dr. Paul Fedak and Dr. Todd Anderson at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute. His research has contributed to advancements in heart tissue remodelling and innovative cardiac surgery techniques, resulting in the co-authorship of two textbook chapters. His leadership in numerous research projects on coronary artery disease has led to publications in reputable journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
Shubh continues his research focusing on lipoprotein(a) and coronary artery bypass graft surgery outcomes under the supervision of Dr. Subodh Verma. He is also actively engaged in research on heart valve outcomes and collaborates with AI specialists to develop predictive models for cardiovascular diseases.
Looking forward, Shubh is dedicated to integrating his expertise, insights from translational research, and clinical experiences to pioneer innovative therapies and enhance patient care in cardiac medicine.
