Heather has a Bachelor's and Master of Social Work and a Doctor of Social Sciences. Heather's dissertation focused on the experiences of patients and caregivers who had to relocate to access heart transplants. Heather drew on her personal experience of relocating with her husband Jamie who was in needed of a heart transplant.
Heather continued her research by completing post doc fellowships with the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia and the University of Northen British Columbia working on projects related to heart failure care.
Heather sits on the Board of the Canadian Transplant Association and is a member of HeartLife Foundation and the Canadian Heart Function Alliance.
Heather has worked at in the Transplant program at Toronto General Hospital and Cardiovascular Surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital. Currently Heather works at the Ottawa Heart Institute in patient engagement in research.
