Born in Toronto, Ontario, Dave Nagpal completed his BSc in Physiotherapy at Queen’s University in Kingston in 1998, and went on to complete his MD at the University of Western Ontario in 2004. With an interest in healthcare delivery, he completed a Masters of International Health Management, Economics, and Policy at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy in 2007, and interned at the Cardiac Care Network of Ontario in 2007. Following completion of the University of Western Ontario / London Health Sciences Centre cardiac surgery training program in 2010, and the critical care medicine fellowship in 2011, he completed a surgical heart failure fellowship in 2012 at the Cleveland Clinic. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with certifications in Cardiac Surgery and Critical Care Medicine, and is currently Assistant Professor in the Divisions of Cardiac Surgery and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Western Ontario / London Health Sciences Centre in London, Ontario. In 2014 he was appointed Surgical Director of the Advanced Heart Failure and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program, and in 2017 Co-Director of the Cardiac Care Unit. His research interests include acute and chronic cardiac and cardiopulmonary support in the management of heart failure and cardiogenic shock, resuscitation and fluid therapy, and quality improvement in cardiac surgical and critical care outcomes. He has authored or co-authored 26 peer-reviewed manuscripts, and has presented nationally and internationally.
