Dr Michael Brennon Tsang is a Interventional and Critical Care Cardiologist at Hamilton General Hospital. He completed medical school at the University of British Columbia. Subsequently he trained in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and also completed a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at McMaster University. During his fellowship and during his early career he completed a Masters in Health Science Education and is currently the Assistant Program Director for the Adult Cardiology Residency Program at McMaster. In 2022, after 5 years of practice he returned to do an additional fellowship year in Critical Care Cardiology at McMaster where he was the inaugural fellow.
Both his academic and clinical interests center in the management of Cardiogenic Shock, the Shock Team, Mechanical Circulatory Support and Complex coronary artery disease. He is the current Director of the McMaster Interdisciplinary Heart Team Rounds and has published his work on the Heart Team model in JAMA Open. He is also the Catheterization Laboratory Lead on Cardiogenic Shock and Mechanical Circulatory Support. He initiated the Hamilton Health Science Cath Lab triggered Shock Team Model in 2023. He continues to work on Local and National Educational and Quality Improvement Initiatives in Cardiogenic Shock. He is the Hamilton Health Science site Investigator for the Impella STEMI Door-to-Unload trial aimed at using mechanical support to reduce infarct size in Anterior ST elevation Myocardial Infarction. Hamilton will be the Canadian lead site for this innovative pivitol trial.
