Dr. William Kent is Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute, University of Calgary. He co-leads the Minimally Invasive Valve Surgery Program, is Deputy Head of Education, and is Surgical Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support. Dr. Kent completed his undergraduate and MSc degrees at Western University and then obtained his MD at Queen’s University, where he also completed a residency in General Surgery. After training in Cardiac Surgery at the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary, he then pursued fellowship training in complex valve surgery, transplant, and mechanical circulatory support at Northwestern University in Chicago. After joining the Libin Institute in 2013, he was Residency Training Program Director from 2015 to 2020. He has a keen interest in valve surgery, minimally invasive techniques and outcomes research. His clinical practice focused on minimally invasive valve surgery, aortic valve repair, and the Ross procedure.
