Dr. De Villiers Jonker completed his medical training in South Africa and completed his Fellowships in Adult Cardiovascular Surgery and Congenital Cardiovascular Surgery at the University Of Alberta Hospital. He obtained his Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Cardiac Surgery Board Certification in 2013 and has been part of the Stollery Children’s Hospital team as a Congenital Cardiac Surgeon since 2019.
Dr. Jonker holds significant international experience and has worked in hospitals across South Africa, the UK and North America. In an educational capacity, he has been involved in numerous international workshops in countries including the Netherlands, Switzerland and Turkey.
Dr. Jonker is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University Of Alberta School Of Medicine where he works with students in the Division of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. He has a special interest in neonatal, transplant and VAD surgery as well as complex left ventricular outflow tract reconstruction and the Ross procedure.
