Dr. Iulia Iatan is a Physician Scientist at the University of British Columbia and the Healthy Heart Program Prevention Clinic at St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver. She graduated from General Internal Medicine at McGill University, after completing her medical degree (MD) at Laval University in Quebec City and obtaining a PhD at McGill University, working on the genetic and molecular regulation of cholesterol metabolism and its implication in premature cardiovascular disease. She recently completed a subspeciality Postdoctoral Beedie Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Clinical Lipidology at the University of British Columbia, Centre for Heart Lung Innovation. She has an interest in cardiometabolic health and prevention, management of inherited lipid disorders and cardiovascular genetics. She holds several distinctions. During her PhD, she received scholarships from the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), including the Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate Scholarships, one of the most significant doctoral awards in Canada. Dr. Iatan has presented at several national and international conferences, including a recent Late-breaking Clinical Trial at the 2023 American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions, and authored several peer-reviewed papers. She received the Junior Investigator Award for Women from the American Heart Association, demonstrating her commitment and dedication to the medical and scientific community.
