Mika'il Visanji is a first year medical student at McMaster University, with a strong interest in cardiovascular sciences. He graduated with a Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc) degree also from McMaster, during which his interest in conducting rigorous research and translating its findings into practice developed. His work as a summer student at St. Michael's Hospital focused on sudden cardiac arrest, spanning a diverse range of topics including health databases, sudden cardiac arrest during sport/activity, CPR training, and genetic screening of family members. During this time, he also develped an interest in education and advocacy, co-founding the McMaster Cardiovascular and Resuscitation Club, focused on increasing awareness of training opportunities realting to sudden cardiac arrest resuscitation. The club has trained over 10,000 students over since its inception, and spearheaded a series of mass training events on over 10 campuses. In addition, he has an interest in electrophysiology research, and works with the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI) at McMaster University. Mika'il has led a systematic review on preventing post-operative atrial fibrillation through ablation during cardiac surgery and presented the results of this at the American College of Cardiology 2024 Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. As a first year medical student, he is excited to jump into the realm of clinical knowledge while continuing to grow his research skills.
