Dr. Varinder Kaur Randhawa has undertaken MD PhD (biochemistry), internal medicine, cardiology, advanced heart failure transplant, and post-doctoral training at the University of Toronto, Western University and Cleveland Clinic Foundation. In her research, she has explored heart failure, heart transplant, diversity, e-health, cardiac arrest, cardiogenic shock, and mechanical circulatory support outcomes. She serves as Canadian Journal of Cardiology (CJC) trainee section editor and trainee editorial board member, CJC Open editorial board member, Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) Guidelines Committee and CCS Equity Diversity and Inclusion Committee trainee rep, CCS abstract reviewer, and CCS trainee committee member (previously past chair) and networking group chair. She is a member several CCS affiliates (Canadian Heart Failure Society, Canadian Cardiac Transplant Network and CANCARE), as well as ISHLT and its cardiogenic shock task force. Contributions to peer-reviewed literature includes 27 publications (Circulation Heart Failure, Journal of American Heart Association, Critical Care, Resuscitation, CJC, and CJC Open), 16 reviews or editorials, 38 talks and 41 conference presentations (Canadian Cardiovascular Congress, American College of Cardiology, Heart Failure Society of America, Canadian Critical Care Forum, International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), FASEB Conference, American Diabetes Association, European Association for the Study of Diabetes, and American Society for Cell Biology). She has contributed to tri-council grants, including as co-PI on a gender diversity CIHR planning and dissemination grant and as co-investigator for several translational research programs. She has experience with clinical trials, observational studies, e-health, registry and big data development, gender diversity, biochemistry, physiology, and cell biology studies. Additionally, she has served as teaching assistant, research mentor and lecturer in biochemistry, medicine, dentistry and graduate studies courses.
