Dr. Sharon Chih is a Heart Failure-Transplant cardiologist and is the Medical Director of the Heart Transplant and Mechcanical Circulatory Support programs and lead of the Shock Team at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. She is an Associate Professor of Medicine and holds the Tier 2 Research Chair in Cardiac Transplantation at the University of Ottawa.
Dr. Chih attended medical school at the University of Western Australia in Perth, Australia. She undertook cardiology training at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, followed by a PhD at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in Sydney, Australia and a fellowship in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation at the University of Toronto. She was recruited to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in 2014.
Dr. Chih is the current chair of the Canadian Cardiac Transplant Network (CCTN) Heart Transplant Registry Steering Committee and past Research Committee lead. She has served as an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Transplantation and on the Heart and Stroke Foundation Scientific Review Committee.
Dr. Chih's research interest is in heart transplantation, with a focus on cardiac allograft vasculopathy. Her research program has been funded by the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Canadian Institutes of Health Research, incluing an Emerging Research Lead Initiative Grant, a Grant-in-Aid, project grants, and a Clinician Scientist- Phase I Award.
