Amy Charlebois is the advanced practice nurse for cardiac surgery at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute where she participates in patient education, care and research.
Background
Amy Charlebois received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2007 from the University of Ottawa and Algonquin College collaborative program. Charlebois then earned her Masters of Nursing Science as well as a Graduate Certificate in Nursing specializing in clinical education in 2015 from Charles Sturt University in Australia. She joined the Heart Institute in 2007 as a clinical staff nurse on the cardiac surgery unit. Amy then fulfilled various roles such as the clinical nurse educator for cardiology and cardiac surgery nursing team. She also helped to develop the heart failure transitional care
nursing role. Amy has played an integral part in the development of the Heart Failure Rapid Intervention Clinic as well as in developing tools and resources based on best practice guidelines for both of the Heart Institute’s cardiology and cardiac surgery populations. Amy is also a team member and coordinator for the Multidisciplinary Endocarditis Heart Team. Amy has a passion for education, which she uses to deliver the best possible care for the Heart Institute’s cardiac patient population. As an advanced practice nurse in cardiac surgery, Charlebois provides clinical expertise in the field of education and cardiovascular nursing.
Research & Clinical Interests
Charlebois’ research interests include cardiovascular and cardiac surgery nursing research, patient and adult education, patient care outcomes, health promotion, as well as best practice guidelines.
